Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop the AerialIQ edge platform that runs on drones and fire-appliance-mounted devices.
- Integrate cameras, sensors and AI models onto edge hardware (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi or similar).
- Build reliable software to capture video, run inference on-device, and stream results and alerts back to the cloud.
- Handle real-world field constraints: limited power, intermittent connectivity, heat, vibration and dust.
- Work with the AI team to deploy and update models on edge devices over the air.
- Test and harden the platform in the field, and help define the hardware roadmap.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience developing software for embedded or edge devices (Linux-based single-board computers).
- Comfortable with Python and/or C++, and with integrating cameras and sensors.
- Experience running AI/ML inference on edge hardware.
- Good understanding of networking, video streaming and getting data reliably from device to cloud.
- Currently studying or recently completed a Master's degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Software/Electrical/Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering, AI/ML, or related).
- Some relevant industry experience is highly desirable — up to around 3 years is ideal, but strong project, research or internship work also counts.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in an early-stage, fast-moving startup environment.
- Clear written and spoken English, and the ability to explain technical work to non-technical people.
- Available to commit to a regular part-time schedule for the duration of the internship.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with drones, robotics or fire/emergency equipment.
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, GStreamer, ROS or over-the-air update systems.
- Knowledge of low-power and ruggedised hardware design.
Location & Working Arrangement
This is a part-time internship running for 3–4 months. You will be based at the Western Sydney Startup Hub in Parramatta and are expected to work onsite at least two days per week, so you must have a reliable means of transport to get there. The remaining hours can be worked flexibly around your studies.
What We Offer
- A hands-on internship working directly with the founder on a real, shipping product.
- Work on technology with genuine real-world impact — protecting communities, land and crops.
- Mentorship, portfolio-worthy projects and a flexible part-time schedule that fits around study.
- A collaborative environment at the Western Sydney Startup Hub in Parramatta, with the potential to grow into a longer-term role as the company scales.
To apply, send your CV and a short note about a relevant project you have worked on to sohan.domingo@edgegenix.com.
